As 2018 comes to a close, and we look back on this past year celebrating our 70th Anniversary, we want to express our sincere appreciation to those who have supported us over the past 70 years.

Earlier this year, we pledged to accomplish 70 acts of kindness to commemorate our milestone year. Giving back to the community we live and work in is not only part of our core values, it is part of the firm’s culture and identity. It is a belief that has been ingrained into BPW’s culture since it was founded, and it is an important legacy to continue.

Over the course of the year, the firm and our team members have performed a multitude of acts of kindness. The firm supports many local nonprofits and schools. Many of our team members serve on the boards of local nonprofit organizations and volunteer their time. We are proud of BPW’s deep-rooted spirit of community and honored to give back to the community that has supported us for so many years.

Acts of Kindness in 2018

  1. We are proud to sponsor Kids Helping Kids.
  2. We rolled up our sleeves and donated blood for the BPW Blood Drive on February 2.
  3. On February 9, we enjoyed attending and supporting the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Luncheon.
  4. Corporate sponsor of the Lobero Theatre.
  5. John Britton is on the Elings Park Board of Directors.
  6. Ana Cook volunteered with the Santa Barbara Bucket Brigade.
  7. Co-hosted our seventh Tech Mixer and raised funds for the Santa Barbara Foundation’s Community Disaster Relief Fund on February 7.
  8. Sponsored Make-A-Wish Tri-Counties Wish Night Gala 2018 on February 23.
  9. Sponsored the Kick Ash Bash on February 25.
  10. Danna McGrew serves on the South Coast Business & Technology Awards Steering Committee as well as their Nominating Committee.
  11. Proud to support the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s 2018 Film Camp.
  12. Sponsored Garden Street Academy’s Annual Gala & Auction Hawaiian Nights on March 10.
  13. On April 6, we enjoyed attending and supporting the Goleta Chamber of Commerce and City of Goleta at the 11th Annual State of the City.

  19. Sponsored the Our Lady of Sorrows and Notre Dame School’s Annual Festival on May 5.
  20. Sponsored the Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care’s 17th Annual Mother’s Day Luncheon on May 11.
  21. Eileen Sheridan serves on the Board of Directors for the Music Academy of the West.
  22. We enjoyed attending and supporting the Chamber of the Santa Barbara Region’s Regional Business Awards on May 11.
  23. On May 19, we sponsored Marymount School of Santa Barbara’s Starry Night Gala.

  25. Sponsored and attended UCSB’s Technology Management Program New Venture Competition.
  26. Rebecca Alarcon volunteered her time with the Carpinteria Valley Youth Athletic Association and coached her daughter’s cheer team, the Jr. Warriors.

  42. Joanie Hardy and her family participated in United Way’s Day of Caring, partnering with Explore Ecology for beach clean-up at Hendry’s Beach.
  43. Sponsored the 60th Annual Santa Barbara Community Prayer Breakfast on September 20.
  44. Had a great time sponsoring and playing in the Santa Barbara County Bar Association Golf Tournament on September 21.
  45. Happy to sponsor the second annual MOXI@Night “In Motion” on September 22.
  46. Jodie Nakajima volunteered her time for a habitat restoration trip to San Nicolas Island with Channel Islands Restoration. They planted native plants to create habitats for the night lizards.

  59. On November 4, Kathleen Donelan-Maher co-presented with Aaron Ritter from Avalan, LLC an educational class for the community. The complimentary course was held at Unity of Santa Barbara and was entitled, “Charitable Giving After the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.”
  60. Jason Atyabi currently serves on the on the Audit Committee for the Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation.

  62. Teresa Mullins volunteers her time every Saturday with the Animal Shelter Assistance Program at the local cat shelter.

  65. On November 5 the firm kicked-off its 2018 United Way Campaign.
  66. On November 8, we enjoyed attending and sponsoring CALM’s annual luncheon, CALM at Heart: Building Community.
  67. Team members had great time participating and supporting United Way’s United We Bowl Bowl-a-thon on November 9.
  68. Kathleen Donelan-Maher and her husband volunteered with Storyteller Children’s Center, helping to stuff envelopes for their Winter Appeal fundraising campaign.
  69. Bob Maloy is part of the Phoenix Committee, helping to rebuild the Boy Scouts of America camp at Rancho Alegre. Currently, they are raising funds to rebuild the camp and site for the Outdoor School.
  70. Happy to support the Santa Ynez Pirates High School Basketball Program.
  71. On November 30, we were honored to sponsor and attend the Fifth Anniversary of the Alzheimer’s Women’s Initiative ‘Your Brain Matters’ Luncheon.
  72. The firm adopted a family of six through CALM’s Adopt-A-Family program and team members adopted an additional four families.
